Of Mumbo-Jumbos and Dumbos

Just when the samples of salty sea-water turned sweet were undergoing chemical analysis at the labs, somebody decided to play a time-tested trick of milky miracle. And before you could utter "deja-vu", hordes of idiots are thronging at the temples to witness vanishing milk inside the mouth of the idols.

"It is amazing; Lord Ganesha drank milk from my hands. Now he will answer all my prayers," said Surama Dasgupta, a middle-aged woman in Kolkata" [source]

What a wonderful philosophy we have infused amongst Indians who inhibit a country that runs not on petrol nor coal nor nuclear energy but the silver-tonic fuel otherwise known as bribe. Now you can directly feed the gods to fulfill your wish-list and if you don't the divine one wouldn't lend an ear to your utmost prayer. Doesn't this version of God is in close resemblance with other makers-n-breakers of your fate like the clerk at the government office ?

Personally I have no problem with these moronic creatures who masquerade as human beings crowding the places of worship and holding a spoon of sudh-taaza-dudh as offering. But a waste of precious gallons of milk and even more rarer common-sense down the drains do incite a little bit of Tch-Tch from me.

Unfortunately as this milk-miracle proves what you say is very much true.

Have you ever wondered how many of our high tech people do believe in religious symbolisms, religious gurus, and day-to-day superstitions? I am not including “being religious”. My experiences, with medicos (including those fiery AIIMS fellows), Techies at IITs and Scientists at international and national labs, are miserable. You can easily put many (if not majorities) of them in that so called “Idiot” category. It would be nice if you can start an online survey on this topic. We can forward an online form to all our high-tech friends.

Biplab-da,to think of it nearly all religions are based on the assumption of existance of a super-natural power and you surrendering to that power.And the only easy way you can visualise manifestation of that power leads you to ask for unexplanable miracles.Whatever your qualifications could be,this basic premise of religious belief makes you prone to the weakness.And this is exploited by god-men who shows you cheap magic tricks in the name of divine miracle.Remember the decade old cheese cake with Virgin Mary' face that was sold for millions on eBay.Look at the TRP ratings of the evangelists on TV channels.May be I should try my hands too at squeezing money out of these "idiots".Time to grow my beard and look for a good PR agency :)

personally i think, there's not much left in an ordinary indian's life.if they find consolation in feeding ganesha, what's the harm. they are not morons, they are desperately clinging to some dear faith, in the cost of the common sense. you rob them off their faith, you rob them off everything, including intellect.
let them be.

Milk again? When did God turn so boring? Can't they drink something more fun this time? I don't know, like a Pina Colada or something? So you are so right, these people are morons masquerading as humans :)

@Ghetufool: I always thought ordinary Indians had Ekta Kapoor's soap depicting real-life challenges,KJos thought-provoking movies and a horde of news channel to keep them informed about how many times PM of India blinks before taking any serious decision.Maybe these have lost their entertainment values,so we need something else more entertaining.But a moron is a moron, no other word can describe the characteristic as profoundly.
